With the topic of fitness trending with greater alacrity every passing year, the drive to stay above board in health parameters remains unsurpassable.

Yet, right from the beginner to the pro, every fitness enthusiast battles a slacker of a period when either the beginner is unable to push her/himself to take the necessary steps into fitness goals, or the pro has hit a saturation where self-mentoring is failing to yield results. Step in the Personal Trainer, a definition that is sweeping the fitness world across the globe. With the city ranking high on the list of fit cities, the demand for Personal Trainers (PT) is on the rise. "Personal Trainers are customized to suit individual personalities," says Priya Kumar, director of a fitness centre and gym in Chandigarh, "What really lacks in people is the motivation to take the requisite driving force toward your fitness goals. A Personal Trainer is what can help here."

MAKING PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE

"One of the most important reasons why people need a Personal Trainer is in the fact that they help bring in accountability" says Mohinder Pal Gupta, a Personal Trainer at a local gym, "It's tough to procrastinate or become absentee when you have a trainer awaiting you at the gym." Of course, a lot of us would also like to keep our dates with the PT for the fact that we have paid extra money for the personal session. And that, we all know can a big enough motivation!

CHANGE TO KEEP THINGS INTERESTING

It's common knowledge that the human body hits a plateau after six weeks of doing the same training. Hence, the need to shake things up every six weeks arises. But that can happen either if the person is very deeply knowledgeable about fitness or one has a PT. "Change is an important constant as a Personal Trainer. Besides adding that new energy to workouts, change also ensures the body will continue to respond to exercise," says Mohinder, "A boring workout is the most common reasons for dropouts."

DELIVERING RESULTS AT YOUR FITNESS GOALPOST

With PT the ultimate goals are easier to achieve. "It's easy to lose steam for exercise if you're not seeing results. A trained fitness guru will ensure your program is in sync with your fitness goals, whether it is by overcoming an injury, a health condition or just plain boredom," adds Priya, "They also keep their own accountability towards you by measuring your changes with regular assessments." Simran Pathija, regional head at the corporate office of a private bank in Chandigarh lost 20 kgs in last two months through a Personal Trainer. "I had an accident. Thereafter I became sedentary and ended up gaining about 30 kgs. The last time I had lost weight through PT was six years ago when I shed 15 kgs. Hence I had faith in a PT and decided to go back to it two months ago," he says, "I am personally lazy towards exercise and don't have the technical knowledge and skill to achieve weight loss. My PT keeps me motivated by pushing me towards 'just one more rep sir'. And I guess that's the trick the body needs to get going."

Chandigarh based Anmol Sandhu, model, actress and writer, believes that specific personal goals keep you motivated to achieve your fitness goals. "Before I went for the international pageant after winning the national contest, I took Personal Training since I wanted to stand out as the best there," says Anmol who is making her debut in a Tamil film Dhayam, "Also, I wanted to get the right education, permanently for life, about fitness so that I can keep training myself in the future since the glamour world demands fit bodies. Though we keep gymming in routine, I feel if you have some goal like I had about the pageant, it keeps you more driven."Read more at:graduation gowns
